CANBERRA CHAMPBIKX DOUBLE HEADER - ADAM HILLIAM

Posted by Redline Australia on March 12, 2010

2010 CANBERRA CHAMPBIKX DOUBLE HEADER

Adam Hilliam travelled south to compete in harsh conditions at first the southern Tuggeranong track. The days racing started off with about an inch of rain and got worse from there.

Twenty three riders showed to add points to a series that already has had four rounds completed.

In his semi Adam came 3rd to progress to the final where only the conditions were the winner and he crossed the line in 8th.

Back to the unit and strip down of the bikes to clean and lube to be ready for Saturday at Melba. Again the skies threatened but this time cleared away allowing for dry conditions but with a track surface that had bog holes hiding under raked crusher dust.

Adams motos races were good with a win in the third and last qualifier and then a 3rd in the semi. t

Adams nemesis of a slow gate start in the final gate again saw him have to push through to get near the leaders on the second straight and gaining another place in the second berm. Being pushed out wide coming off the third and last berm he was in 4th and had speed for the final straight. Jumping onto the last table top his front wheel found one of the mud bog holes on the edge of the track and next thing he is propelled over his bars into the track surface. Unfortunately he had jumped onto this bog hole and ruined his chances of a top 3 finish in a high level class of 16 boys. 23 had come from around the country to try and claim the #1 plate and a prize pool of $600.

With only the last round being a double points round in Shepparton in May he wants to stay in the top eight of the country. Only the next two months of training will show how much he wants it.

2010 ACT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS AT MELBA by Kev Hilliam

Having just competed in two rounds of Champbikx Adam was feeling the effects of National level racing. These ACT Championships are used by many as a shake down before the National Championships of that year. This year it is being held in Shepparton Victoria in May.

Adams motos were great and top three results were giving good signs of a top finish.

With the rain having left the area the afternoon of racing was in the dry but still with a soft track in places. Even I found the track heavy in places. Three motos were raced and the evening was a break the boys needed to try and get some recovery before finals on Sunday. At least the bikes clean and not needed a stripping down. Subway was requested by the lads for race food that night and quickly they were eaten by the way.

Sunday had threats of more rain but seemed to understand to stay away.

Adam had a strong Sunday morning moto and lead all the way. Good things about to happen he thought. His semi was filled with names you would expect to see in a National final. The moto was run and he crossed the line in 3rd securing a finals berth.

The final was nothing short of fast! Slightly missing the gate he had to try and push thought from mid pack and by the time the finish line appeared he was in 4th. Not bad for his third day of racing and one he should be proud of. 4ACT goes with his 4Q plate for a year.

I had a steady Titles meeting competing in 45-49mens in both age and cruiser. There were some new faces that had just come into the bracket and they were there to show us how to do it. Bumping and barging their way through the motos. I was happy with my finals results of 4th in age and 5th in cruiser. Shepparton will be very interesting I am sure in May. And the drive home, well that is another story.
