New Years' Down Unda': UCi Nerang Event

By Sam Willoughby#91 on January 04, 2010

Happy New Years.

Nerang is done for this weekend. It was super hot and humid all weekend.  Alise and I both raced the UCI rounds on Friday night and Saturday. Alise had a good night Friday night - winning all but one of her qualifiers, and easily transferring to the main. I also won all my motos, quarter and semi.

Then in the mains Alise had pretty good lap coming in 2nd to Caroline Buchanan.
I, on the other hand, had a terrible race - missing the start and getting cut off. I ended up 5th behind Jared Graves. So as you can imagine, I was not too happy and was desperate to make up for it the next day.

On Saturday I had better day and again won all my heats and quarter and semi and transferred to the main easily. In the main I actually went on the red light this time and got out good to battle for the lead with Jared Graves into turn one. He managed to go up the inside of me in turn one and we battled back and forth to the line. I ended up a close 2nd, and we really put on a show for the crowd.
Meanwhile, Alise holeshotted and was looking good for the win when she got the wobbles down the 2nd straight and ended up getting passed to finish 3rd.

In all it was a good fun weekend for us both and a good lead up to Reno.

We met with Bill from BMX international - the longtime Redline distributor for Australia. He was great and is a really nice and helpful guy. They had a great Redline set up there which was really cool to be a part of.  So far, it's been great joining the Redline family.
