2012 Australian
National Championships, being held in Mt Gambier, with an awesome track and great weather, we were looking forward to a good week of racing.
Redline Team Australia line up for the National BMX titles with a few members down this year due to injury.
Jarrad Drizners, one of the youngest of the team, in the 13 boys challenge class won two of his motos and came 2nd in one to put him in the final where he finished 8th.
Katie and Saya:
Redline team mates were facing off for the state dynamite challenge …….. Both transferred to the final.
Both raced the 13 girls challenge with Katie also racing 13-14 cruisers. 3 heats of girls with a semi final found both girls and also the National champion from last year, Sara Jones who was also riding strong all dominating their heats. Semi final saw Saya 1st and Katie 2nd. In the final Sara Jones was off to a good start. Saya showing off her jumping skills & Katie with her never give up attitude. Sara lead the race till the last corner, Saya had a great final move in the last corner to come out in front and win the race with Katie moving into second with the narrowest of margins. Katie, backing up the next day to finish a creditable 3rd in the 13 – 14 cruiser.
Buster Keogh : Suffering from a sore knee battled through to the ¼ only to finish 5th . Good result under the circumstances. Cruiser was a similar result with a crash in 1st moto then a 4th and a 5th.
Rachelle: went in to the last round of the Champbikx series with 3 girls vying for 1st points with only a few points between them, a win would secure an overall first place for any of the riders. With two seconds and a first, the lap time of 43.765, Rachelle was heading in the right direction. A good start in the final and a convincing win, gave Rachelle the overall win in the series for 15 girls Champbikx class.
Rachelle also rode the 15 girls challenge class at the nationals, she cruised through her motos with three wins a first in the semi and then a 3rd in the final, just showing she didn’t have it all her own way.
Lockie rode well after 15 months off his bike due to injury only to unclip and finish 6th in the semi. 15-16 boys Cruiser was a different story with the toughest of heats and semi to make it through to the main where he finished 4th and the highest finishing 15 year old.
Aaron: 3rd in champbikx, rode strongly in Nationals after his slight disappointment in champbikx, he had a point to prove, winning all motos, quarter, semi and main to dominate his new Australian 1A plate.
Kai , after winning all of his motos things were going good. A 2nd in the quarters put him through to the semi where he placed 4th. With no luck on his side he was clipped down the first straight only to crash & finish 8th, better luck next time.
Sarah racing Junior Women rode well after beating her rival (the current leader of the series) 4 out of 4 on Probikx and had something to prove. After racing Junior Elite champ from last year she was up against it making it through to the main. Not such a good start she was in 3rd place on the 3rd straight and put the pass on 2nd and that is where she finished, 2nd in Junior Women.
Josh winning all of his motos was riding sharp, through to the Semi where he placed 4th. On to the hotly contested main, with a not too bad start finished 5th in final.
Team Redline Australia also won the Corporate Team Challenge, beating 17 other teams to cap off a great event for the team.
Thanks to the club, BMXA , all the officials for a great event & a big thanks to the Team.
