Logan Owen crowned himself Junior “Cross King” today with his victory at the 2012 Cross Nationals in Madison(Verona) WI. Under sunny 34’ weather Logan went out and tackled a technically challenging course. Although not taking the “holeshot,” Logan powered his way up the left side of the starting soccer field once the racers had left the fast pavement start. Logan then cornered with ease around the first greasy 90’ bend and advanced up to third, he then moved to second after the next 90’ corner and by the climb up to the water tower he had taken the lead and the control of the race. By the time he was on the descent down from the top of the course, Logan had 10 seconds over Andrew Dillman.
Logan did not pit at the second pit and put another 10 seconds into Dillman by the time he reached the start line for the start of lap two of the four lap race. Logan then went on to pit almost every half lap and power away from the field. By the end the damage was done, with Logan having 50 seconds over his nearest competitor. Logan was able to be careful on the last lap and did not ride at 100 percent but instead carefully chose good lines to insure a victory.
The use of three bikes was critical because the thick mud was hard to clean and needed to be carefully removed from cassette, pulley wheels and chainrings. The triple crown for Logan is winning the USGP, consistent top 8 places or better in Europe over Christmas break, and today winning ‘cross Natz. Zach McDonald is the equivalent in the under 23 category and Logan is not that far off from Zach when we compare lap times at several courses this season. Team Redline wishes to thank all of our sponsors whom make all of this all possible, Kool Stop, FSA, Challenge, XLC, Pryme and SRAM.
