Logan Owen riding terrific in his 1st Euro Cross Camp in Belgiumon December 27, 2011Merry ‘Cross Christmas from the American riders in Belgium at Geoff Proctors Euro Cross Camp! Here is Logan’s race report from Diegem, Belgium-out at the Brussels airport. 12/23: We arrived in the town of Diegem, fully decked out in Christmas decorations, around 1:00pm (3 hours before our race at 4). We headed over to the sign-in and had to cross a bridge into a medieval castle for the "Inscriptions" as the Belgians would put it. We got our numbers and headed out on the course. It was very hilly with a lot of road sections, a lot of climbing, a few barriers and a sand pit. We rolled around at the start for about 20 minutes before the start. It was nearly dark out as we started hearing call ups. I got a 2nd row start and lined up behind my fellow American Andrew Dillman. I had a great start and hit the 1st corner in 3rd behind the main competition Mathiue Van der Poel. I battled with Van der Poel, his teammate and two Fidea kids for the 1st 2 laps for the lead as they were throwing attacks left and right at me. Eventually I faded a bit and fell back to 11th with 1 lap to go. I gathered myself and gave everything I had for the last lap and pulled myself to 8th position by the finish (out of 73 starters). I was happy with this result because I knew I gave it everything I had and I was the top American on the day. It was a great learning experience about how tough those other kids are!
