When you are not racing BMX you Race "Formula One Technology Challenge" Tristyn Kronk

By Redline Australia on October 13, 2011

I recently competed at the Formula One Technology Challenge 2011 World Final in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The program is aimed at introducing more young students into the engineering sector and boosting the number of engineers in the workplace.

There was 6 team members in our team fulfilling the roles of; Team manager, Design Engineer, Manufacture Engineer, Communications Manager, Resource Manager and Graphic Designer. As a team we were required to present a car designed on a CAD program called Catia, a pit display to show how we got to where we were and who we are, a verbal presentation, engineering files (including virtual renders, CAM processes and Assemblies), and then of course race our car. To help us achieve this we visited and collaborated with many workplaces and businesses locally, interstate and internationally.

Overall our race car placed 14th at a mere 0.028 seconds behind the first place car.

My team and I went through many qualifying stages including placing second at the national titles, we were then invited to attend the World Titles and placed 13th out of a total 23. This was a pleasing result and much like BMX the F1 in Schools program teaches that it's the hard work put in behind the scenes that is going to let you achieve your goals. On behalf of my team I would also like to thank everyone that helped us get to the World Titles and have this once in a life time experience.
