Redline’s first product tester is one of their employees; a 15 year old grommett from the valley named Byron Friday. After consistently busting single-clamp stems, Redline digs into their motorcycle roots and comes up with a dual-clamp chromoly stem for Byron to try to break. He can’t.

Redline appears on its very first front-cover: BICYCLE MOTOCROSS NEWS, with John Palfreyman at Saddleback, aboard a 3-of-a-kind looptail Redline prototype. Only one of those frames still known to exist.

Not everyone can afford the "expensive" $40 chromoly Redline fork. Thus, Redline introduces a $25 version of it, made of steel and powder coated black or yellow.
