HOMETOWN: Goodyear, AZ
HOW DID BMX FIND YOU: It was on my 7th birthday. My dad took me to the
local track to check it out. I watched that day and we came back on the next
race day with my bike. Ironically, I raced against the Alessi Bros., who are now
racing pro in motocross for KTM.
STRANGEST EXPERIENCE ON A BIKE: I'd have to say the 2nd main at the
2004 ABA Grands. I was just in a different world during that lap. I was going for the
most important title in my life and was doing things you shouldn't normally
be doing. Massive holsehot. X-ups in the lead through a burly pro section. It
sounds weird, but it wasn't me riding that lap.
UNKNOWN FACT: I like to read .. a LOT. When I'm not on my bike, I'm
reading nonstop. I read about one book a week. When I was on summer tour, when I
was 14, I read 2,900 pages in three weeks. My favorite book series is either
Stephen King's Dark Tower or the Lord of the Rings. I've read the entire
trilogy about 3 times now.
WHAT'S ON YOUR iPOD: I have one of the smaller I-Pods, but there's
still about 1,000 songs on it. I'm not a huge music fanatic, like a lot of people, so
I have a wide variety of stuff. Rock to rap to whatever. My most played songs
right now are anything by Jack Johnson.
SCARIEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO YOU: We rolled Schoony's monster
truck a coupla years back, after an ABA national. That was a wild ride! Or years ago, we were traveling
to a Supercamp Clinic in the red Answer boxtruck, towing the trailer, and we
came around this corner kind of fast and there was standstill traffic for a
construction zone. We locked up in to a skid and the trailer that we were
in started to fishtail, so we turned in to the median and drove down it and back
up, into oncoming traffic! Then my dad turned back in to the median, back down
and then up again, finally coming to a screeching stop in front of the
construction guys. All of the construction guys were just standing there in awe.
CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE WITNESSED: It'd have to be Ryan Staats, dressed
up in a Gorilla suit, jumping out of bushes and riding the BMX track in it. He'd
just pick some random street, hide behind a tree or bush, and then pop out at
people and yell "Arrr!! I'm a gorilla." Definitely the funniest thing I've ever
seen in my life.
BEST THING ABOUT BEING PRO: The fans. Knowing that there are hundreds or thousands of people out there who are rooting for me. It's humbling to think that they appreciate what I do. Signing autographs and whatever else they want me to sign. It's an incredible honor to be looked up to
